Windows 10 allows you the flexibility to run Linux commands in Windows 10. For doing that, you need to have the Linux Bash Shell enabled in Windows 10. In this article, we will explain to you the method through which you can enable Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10.
How to use Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10
In order to enable Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10, you will need to perform the following steps:
Type settings in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search results to launch the new settings window. The newly opened Settings window is shown in the following image:
Click on the Update and Security tab as highlighted in the image shown above.
In the Update and Security Settings window, click on the For Developers tab as highlighted in the image shown below:
Now click on the radio button corresponding to the field saying Developer Mode under the Use Developer Features section as highlighted in the following image:
Type control panel in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search results to launch the new control panel window. The newly opened Control Panel window is shown in the image below:
Now click on the Programs tab as highlighted in the image shown above.
Click on the Programs and Features tab as highlighted in the following image:
In the Programs and Features window, click on the link saying, “Turn Windows features on or off” as highlighted in the image shown below:
As soon as you will click on it, the Windows Features window will appear on your screen as shown in the following image:
Now check the checkbox corresponding to the field saying Windows Subsystem for Linux and then click on the OK button in order to save your settings as highlighted in the image shown above.
As soon as you will click on it, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Just click on the Restart Now button as highlighted in the image shown below:
Once your computer system is restarted, type bash in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search results to launch the bash window. The newly opened Bash window is shown in the following image:
Type “y” and press the enter key in order to continue.
As soon as you will press this, your Linux Bash Shell will start downloading as shown in the image below:
You will be asked to create a user name and password as highlighted in the image shown above. Now you will be able to use the Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10.
