How to Remove Viruses and Malware in Windows 10

In the older version of windows, removal of viruses and malware was very time taking and difficult. It would take several hours to scan the system and the in-built defender software was not strong enough to resolve all the issues and threats. Instead, the system often used to hang during the scan and we have to just cancel the scan to resume the system

With the advancement in the versions of windows, it is easier for you to keep your system secure and malware-free. Windows 10 provides an in-built windows defender application, which scans and removes threats in your system timely. Let’s see how this all works.

  1. Uninstall the malicious programs.

Uninstall the malicious programs

Type Control Panel in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search result. A control panel window will appear as shown.

Click on the Uninstall a Program option under the program tab.

In the Uninstall a Program window, select the program you want to uninstall and click on the uninstall button as shown in the image.

After selecting the Uninstall button, a dialog box will appear to confirm that you want to uninstall the program, select the Yes option. Then the uninstallation setup will proceed as shown.

Scan your system by using the built-in Windows defender security system

Go to the hidden icon on the taskbar, there you will find a Windows Defender. Double click on it and it will launch the windows defender security center app.

Now go to the Virus and Thread Protection section, and click on Scan Now.

Click on the scan options and select Full Scan option and start the scan by clicking Scan Now button as shown. It will run a full system scan and tries to find and remove the threads.

Reset your browser setting to default

Type Google Chrome or the name of the browser you are currently using, in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search result. Alternatively, double-click on the Google Chrome icon. A Google Chrome Home page will appear. Click on the 3 dots on the top right corner of the Google Chrome window as shown in the image.

A menu will appear. Click on the Setting option from that menu as highlighted.

The Setting window will appear. Look for the Reset and Cleanup option. Click to the Reset Setting to their Original Defaults


After clicking Reset Setting to their Original Defaults, a message window will appear to confirm that you want to reset your browser setting or not. Select the Reset Setting button. It will reset all the add-on and extensions of your Google Chrome.

Restart your PC

Go to the Start menu and click on the Power button. Then select Restart as shown. Your computer will restart.

Open your browser’s homepage and in the search area write Avast Antivirus for Windows 10 and press enter button. Select the link highlighted in the image.

This link will direct you to the Avast website. Click the Free Download button as shown. It will take you to the downloading page and a file will start downloading. After the downloading is complete. Go to downloads in the file explorer and Double-click the file.


A window will appear to confirm that you want to run the file, select the Run button. The setup will start running.

After the running process is done, the following window will appear. Click the Install button.

After selecting Install, the installation will be started as highlighted.

Scan your System for Viruses

After the installation part, comes the actual task. We have to scan our system. To do so, follow the following steps:

Open the Avast Application by double-clicking its icon on the desktop. This will launch the application.

From its home page, there is a menu bar on the left side. Select Protection from that menu and then select Virus Scan as shown below.

Now select Full Virus Scan. After selecting Full Virus Scan, the scan will be started. It will take some time while scanning.
